This holiday season, the Alzheimer’s Association Illinois Chapter invites the public to watch its on-demand educational program, Know the 10 Warning Signs of Dementia, available now through December 28, 2024. As families gather to celebrate, they may notice memory or behavior changes in older loved ones—an observation that typically leads to a significant rise in calls to the Association’s 24/7 Helpline.
“During holiday gatherings, families often see firsthand the memory challenges their loved ones may be facing, sometimes more prominently than anticipated,” said Daryl Carlson, Program Manager for the Alzheimer’s Association Illinois Chapter. “This year, our on-demand program offers families an invaluable resource to identify early warning signs and gain peace of mind before their holiday gatherings.”
The program educates viewers on key indicators of dementia, helping them understand the difference between normal aging and concerning memory issues that may signal a more serious condition. It’s especially beneficial for families with loved ones over the age of 65.
The Know the 10 Warning Signs of Dementia program is accessible at bit.ly/Alz10Signs-Central-IL. As an added incentive, Central Illinois businesses have partnered with the Illinois Chapter to provide weekly gift card giveaways for viewers of the program throughout the holiday season.
For those seeking more information, Alzheimer’s Association experts are available to discuss the signs of memory issues and address concerns that commonly arise during the holidays. Please contact Daryl Carlson at dcarlson@alz.org.
