ACTIVITY-BASED ALZHEIMER'S CARE WORKSHOP

This program is for activity professionals with a basic understanding of Alzheimer’s disease who are responsible for activity programming design and implementation.
Activities are the foundation of care. Every event, encounter or exchange is an activity, including every interaction with staff members, volunteers and family. Participants will learn the fundamental components of Activity-Based Alzheimer’s Care, and how to effectively examine assessment and care planning, identify program design options and methods of implementation, adapt activities and the environment, and evaluate programs.
This program is pre-approved for 7 clock hours of continuing education through the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals [NCCAP] and for .6 CEUs through the American Therapeutic Recreation Association [ATRA].

ILLINOIS DEMENTIA CARE TRAINING (IDPH)

This training is in compliance with Public Act 91-744 requiring the Illinois Department of Public Health to establish training criteria for nursing home and home health staff that provide direct care to persons with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. The conference will provide health care professionals the information, techniques and tools needed to train direct care staff providing dementia care in skilled nursing and home health care settings. Topics include Understanding Dementia, Communication Strategies, Teaching Techniques, Conducting In-Services, Dealing Creatively With Challenging Behaviors and Activity-Based Care.
